How to Play Lotto America

Lotto America draws take place on Wednesday and Saturday at 11pm ET and are held in the same studio as the Powerball draw, which is made just before. The studio is located at the headquarters of the Florida Lottery in Tallahassee.

Playing Lotto America

Basic Lotto America tickets cost $1 per line and you can take part by visiting authorized retailers in any of the participating states. On your playslip, you must:

  • Pick five main numbers between 1 and 52 for each line.
  • Choose one Star Ball number from 1 to 10 on each line.

Alternatively, select the Quick Pick or Easy Pick option to let the computer generate lines at random for you.

You should also select which of the weekly draws you wish to enter and the number of weeks for which you would like your Lotto America lines to remain active, if your state allows advance play.

All Star Bonus

For an additional $1 per line, you can add the All Star Bonus option for a chance to boost most of the prizes on offer. You must make this decision when you buy your Lotto America ticket, as you cannot opt in later.

On the night of the drawing, a number between 2 and 5 is drawn and everyone who entered All Star Bonus and who wins a non-jackpot prize has it multiplied by that number. This means that it is possible to win up to $100,000 without matching all the balls drawn.

How to Win

Two draw machines are used to dispense the winning Lotto America line, one for the main numbers and the other containing the Star Balls. To win the Lotto America jackpot, you must match all five main numbers drawn as well as the single Star Ball. However, prizes begin at $2 for matching the Star Ball alone, and grow in value as you match more numbers.

You have a 1 in 9.6 chance of winning any prize and a 1 in 25.9 million chance of claiming the jackpot.

See the Lotto America Prizes page to find out more about all the different ways you can win and each of the prize amounts.

Claiming Prizes

If you win a Lotto America prize, you must claim your money in the same state in which you purchased your ticket. Retailers are able to pay out prizes in the lower tiers, but larger amounts such as the jackpot will have to be claimed from lottery offices.

The length of time you have to claim a prize depends on the state in which your bought your ticket. Take a look at the How to Claim page to learn more about claiming Lotto America prizes.
