Where does the Money Go?

The majority of the profits from the sale of lottery tickets in Iowa are transferred to the state’s General Fund to help pay for vital public services, including education, natural resources, and public safety.

In the years since the Iowa Lottery’s formation, other specialist programs have also benefitted from lottery funding. They include the CLEAN Fund, which supported environmental causes in the state, and the Iowa Plan, which aimed to get more people into work, funded construction programs, supported local communities, and contributed to educational and agricultural research.

To date, the Iowa Lottery has distributed around $2 billion to good causes in The Hawkeye State.
