State-Specific Rules
Entering Lotto America in Kansas is the same as playing in many other participating states. You have to pick a line of numbers to use ahead of a drawing, or ask for a randomly generated Quick Pick selection. There are some rules, however, specific to The Sunflower State that you should be aware of:
- You have to be 18 years of age or over to play the lottery.
- You can enter up to 15 consecutive drawings in advance by ticking the relevant multi-drawing option on your playslip.
- You can purchase tickets up until 20:59 CT on the day of a drawing.
- You can remain anonymous if you win a prize.
- Prizes worth $5,001 or over are subject to 24 percent federal tax and five percent state tax.
How to Claim
You have 365 days from the date of a drawing to come forward and claim your winnings in Kansas.
Prizes up to and including $599 – You can claim these prizes from any licensed retailer in Kansas or the Kansas Lottery headquarters. You need to fill out a claim form for prizes worth $50 or more when you claim in-person or by mail.

Prizes between $600 and $5,000 – These prizes must be claimed from the Kansas Lottery headquarters with a completed claim form. You can also mail your signed ticket with your claim form to the Kansas Lottery headquarters. Payments for prizes of this amount will be made in the same day in the form of a check.
Prizes worth $5,001 or over – You can claim your prize by taking, or mailing, your signed ticket and completed claim form to Kansas Lottery’s headquarters in Topeka. Your check will then be mailed to you or deposited into your bank account. Both of these payment methods take 7-10 days to clear. You can also collect your check when the payment has been processed. To deposit your prize into your bank account, you should contact the Kansas Lottery Finance Department on 785-296-5734, and you will be sent a direct deposit form.
In Kansas, only one person can claim a prize so, if you have won as part of a lottery pool, only one member of the group can claim the winnings. The rest of the party must complete a Multi-Winners form for tax reasons. You can collect a claim and Multi-Winners form from a licensed retailer or the Kansas Lottery office.
